The Controversial Demolition of a 600-Year-Old Mosque in Delhi: What You Need to Know the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) recently conducted an operation to demolish a historic mosque that had stood for over 600 years in the Indian capital city of Delhi.

The Akhondji mosque in the Mehrauli neighborhood was razed to the ground on January 30, along with the Behrul Uloom madrasa. Imam Zakir Hussain, the mosque’s religious leader, expressed his dismay at the fact that the place of worship was demolished without any prior legal notification.

A vast multitude of police officers were reportedly present during the demolition operation conducted by the DDA, as stated by him. Additionally, he mentioned that his phone was seized to prevent him from recording the incident.

The demolition of the mosque directly contradicts the previous guarantees provided by the development authority to the Delhi High Court, assuring that no mosque or legally owned Waqf property in the vicinity would be demolished.

The incident has ignited substantial backlash on social platforms, as individuals are calling for decisive measures to be taken against the individuals implicated in the matter.
