A special flight, PK-9897, departed from Jakarta and landed in Bangkok on Wednesday to refuel before proceeding to Karachi.

The arrival of the plane from Indonesia has been confirmed by the data obtained from the Flight Radar’s portal. This confirmation comes weeks after a team from the carrier negotiated with the Indonesian authorities.

The issue had persisted for a duration of two years; however, the initial aircraft was retrieved in December of the previous year subsequent to the payment of $13 million. PIA has not yet officially verified the arrival of the second plane, nor have they disclosed any specifics regarding the payment made in relation to this matter.

The accord is an outcome of discussions held in October between the high-ranking delegation of PIA, the federal government, and the Indonesian counterpart.

A concise overview of the conflict is that PIA’s two Airbus A320 aircraft have been stationed in Jakarta since September 2021 as a result of a disagreement with the leasing company.

The leasing company refused to accept the Airbus A320 planes that the national carrier had initially returned in 2021, stating that the aircraft did not meet the specified criteria mentioned in the contract.

Currently, the national airline of Pakistan is encountering numerous obstacles, leading to calls for the privatization of the carrier due to its lack of economic sustainability. During the last days of the PDM regime, the Cabinet Committee on Privatization, led by former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, made the decision to privatize Pakistan International Airlines, which had been incurring losses.

The Privatisation caretaker minister, Fawad Hassan Fawad, has expressed support for the airline’s privatization. Additionally, a consultant has been appointed to assist with this matter. However, the entire process is expected to span several months, as the advisor has already submitted a thorough report on the subject.
