China’s foreign ministry has recently announced its intention to carefully evaluate the possibility of reintroducing a previous visa-free agreement for Japanese tourists who plan to visit China.

Wang Wenbin, the official representative of the Chinese foreign ministry, affirmed that the nation would thoroughly consider the proposal in a ‘serious’ manner.

The minister further emphasized the importance of Japan and Beijing working together to enhance the efficiency of cross-border travel between the two countries.

In response to a journalist’s query regarding the postponement of the visa-free policy reinstatement, Wang highlighted China’s proactive efforts in investigating the potentiality.

Prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Japanese nationals were granted the convenience of visa-free access to China, enabling them to stay for a period of 14 days. Nevertheless, the reinstatement of this leniency has not yet occurred.

Despite China’s efforts to ease visa restrictions for citizens from various countries, the visa-free facility for Japanese nationals has been suspended. In Focus: China’s Visa Policies and the Prospects for [Country].

From March this year, China and Thailand have signed a visa-free agreement, allowing citizens to enter China permanently without the requirement of a visa.

Last year, China’s visa relations were extended to France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain. Citizens from these countries were granted the privilege of entering China without a visa for a maximum stay of 15 days, eliminating the need for visa procedures.

In addition, China has unveiled initiatives to enhance travel accessibility from Switzerland and Ireland.
